Integrative counsellor at Three Lamps. A secure, non-judgmental space for low mood, trauma, grief, chronic illness, and feeling stuck.
Matthew works with individuals facing a wide range of challenges — whether living with low mood, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, healing from trauma, managing chronic health conditions, or simply feeling stuck. With experience across both NGOs and private practice, he offers sensitivity, steadiness, and care to this deeply personal process. As a registered ACC Sensitive Claims provider, Matthew specialises in supporting survivors of trauma, alongside working extensively with grief, loss, and anxiety. He also has a dedicated focus on helping people navigate chronic illness and supporting men through emotional and relational challenges.
When stepping into therapy with Matthew, clients enter a secure, non-judgmental space where they are welcome exactly as they are. Together, the focus centres on building resilience, deepening self-understanding, and navigating relational dynamics. Whether respectfully working through past hurts and grief at a safe pace or finding meaningful ways to live well alongside long-term illness, therapy provides practical and compassionate support tailored to each person’s needs.
Matthew’s approach is relational, integrative, and flexible, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, humanistic, and mindfulness-based modalities. Alongside his professional qualifications, he brings the grounded perspective of over 30 years of marriage and raising three adult children. Life is rarely simple, but it becomes far easier to navigate with the right support, and you do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
